Hello! My name is Shelby and I have been working in the human services field since 2022. I got my start working as a Registered Behavior Technician in an ABA clinic providing behavioral therapy to children 2.5 to 14 years old with Autism Spectrum Disorders and similar co-occurring disorders such as ADHD and ODD. During this time, I completed my Bachelor’s Degree in psychology and began my Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, both from Siena Heights University. I started with MVA as an intern in 2025 and have since completed my master’s degree and joined the team as a full-time LLPC.
During my time in undergrad, I got an amazing opportunity to take a class in Gus Harrison with those incarcerated there and was able to expand and grow my understanding and passion for the criminal justice system and the need for educational and compassionate rehabilitation. Through MVA I have been able to use this passion through our jail initiative program that has partnered our recovery coaches and resources to the Lenawee County Jail.
My approach to counseling embraces person-centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and dialectical behavioral therapy-informed techniques. I find utilizing lived experience and formal education to be the most effective ways to connect with and grow with my clients.
In my free time I really enjoy crafting, listening to music, reading, and collecting different things such as mugs, postcards, and random trinkets.
A quote that sticks with me as I move through life is: “The day you plant the seed is not the day you eat the fruit.” ― Fabienne Fredrickson
