Residential Program Assistant Manager and Peer Recovery Coach
Courtney Atkinson, CCAR
Biography
I have been working with individuals with substance use disorders since 2019, when I was a case manager for a specialty treatment court in Hillsdale County. I joined MVA Behavioral Health Services in December 2022 as a case manager, before accepting the position of Residential Program Assistant Manager in 2024. In my role as Assistant Manager I oversee the women’s residential program, I still do case management duties, I help to oversee our resident aides and help them with training and education. I work closely with our Residential Program Manager and our Lead RA to make sure that our program runs smoothly and that all residents are cared for. I also facilitate groups for our residents and help them learn some life skills to utilize when they complete treatment and are living independently.
Prior to working in the substance abuse field, I worked in the healthcare field and did medical billing, helping people sign up for medical insurance and understand their coverage. As someone who has struggled with substance abuse and now living the life of recovery, I understand first-hand the struggles our clients go through which I think helps with our clients as they begin their own journey of recovery. Helping people heal and watching them put the work in to live a life of recovery has been very rewarding. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, and traveling to different states for my kids’ sports.
