This is a one-day educational course for first time drinking and driving offenders. Some second time offenders may be considered based on time frames of arrests, client needs, and court discretion. This course is designed to educate, raise awareness, improve safety, and prevent future drinking and driving incidences and arrests for participants. Topics addressed during this program include: driving laws, consequences of drinking and driving, the disease of alcoholism, the impact alcohol has on driving ability, how alcohol use effects the human body, family roles, stages of recovery, exploration of attitudes, beliefs and behavior related to consuming alcohol and drinking and driving, and general information on related topics. This is accomplished through small group discussion, lectures, videos, and written handouts. An exit interview is done with each participant to determine any potential need for additional interventions. The course meets on a Saturday from 9am to 5pm with check-in starting at 8:15am. Lunch, beverages, and snacks are provided. The cost of this program is $150.
